Now we are slowly coming down off cloud 9 from last week’s triumphant landslide win at The English Hair & Beauty Awards where we won ‘The Hair Salon of the Year East Yorkshire’ and were named ‘The Hair Salon of the Year Overall Winner’. We spent some time with Kerris our founder and Kirsty our Willerby Salon Director and Area Manager to capture just how they are feeling after such an outstanding event! Kerris had the following to say: “We are so excited and emotional about the whole event that took place on Sunday 8th March 2020. We decided to go for the awards as we have been so busy opening the Willerby salon, then myself going on maternity that it wasn’t in our minds for a few years. We only went for the team award so to discover we had been nominated for 3 different awards it was fantastic! On the night we hadn’t won the other 2 however, we all decided it was more about having a fantastic night out together and being able to get dressed up. When we won the regional award, we couldn’t believe it! To be up on stage and then to be announced as the overall winners in addition to the Regional Winners it just seemed so surreal. I am so very proud of our team at both salons. They are wonderful people and so very talented at what they do. I’m especially grateful for Kirsty who is our area manager, for putting so much into our business. She has supported me through the hard times, and she was there for the great moment... all our hard work came to this. We are so excited about 2020! What a wonderful start to the year!” We then had a chat with Kirsty, read what she had to say below: “What can I say? What a night we had on Sunday! Not only were we voted the East Yorkshire regional salon of the year, we then went on to be named the Overall Hair Salon of the Year. I am finding it hard to put into words how I am feeling right now, I have mixed emotions of how proud I am and what a huge achievement this is for us as a salon, our amazing De Lacy family! I feel so overwhelmed that out of all the amazing salons out there, we won! I am so proud of our talented hair team; they are always coming up with new ideas of what they would like to see in the salons. They are on top of their game when it comes to up and coming trends, are always getting models in to try new techniques out, they then adapt these to their individual clients, making this service bespoke and tailored to them. They are constantly pushing each other to be the best they can be, exciting and bouncing off one another within the salons, they just gel perfectly as a team. They thrive on both in-salon training with me and training from our Wella educators. Their knowledge on cutting, colouring and red-carpet looks is of a very high standard and not forgetting their product knowledge, both combined to ensure that ‘just left the salon polished hair look’ for their clients all year round. I can honestly say we have the strongest hair team we have ever had working for us at present at both De Lacy salons. The raw talent and passion they have just excites Kerris and I for the future. All of our team members have a very special place within our hearts, to us they are not just staff, they are like family. A massive thank you to all of our clients, because without you, none of this would have been possible. You are our biggest fans, sharing your love and passion for De Lacy, always supporting the teams. A lot of you have been with us throughout the years and there are a lot of clients that we see as an extended part of our De Lacy Family. Again, without our media team PINQ constantly sharing our amazing work on social media making sure our posts and everything is set to a high standard and getting new clients involved. The work you put in is really appreciated by Kerris and I. You are always going above and beyond to make sure the posts that go out, we are 100% happy with and keeping the ideas fresh. We truly love you! For Kerris and I, we have new chapters within the business, and are very excited for the future. We are constantly working together brain storming, coming up with new ideas for the salon and our team members. Making sure that the service systems and the customer service is second to none. We are constantly considering and searching for training our staff to attend to upskill themselves, to ensure they are giving the best possible service to our clients. All whilst ensuring they are following their dreams and achieving their career goals. So lastly, but by no means least, Kerris...where do I start? Kerris is just a breath of fresh air, she is one of the kindest loving people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. She has taught me so much this past year...I just feel so honoured to be alongside such an amazing person on this journey. I can’t think of anyone else who I would want to be in business with. We are all too aware of how much it entails to keep cool tones looking great, it doesn’t have to be though. Here’s the trick: apply it to dry hair. Applying the right purple shampoo to your locks when they are dry will act as an intensive treatment and reduce the amount of weekly applications, you’ll require to keep the brass at bay. Most stylists and product bottle instructions will state to apply to wet hair and leave for no longer than five to ten minutes. This hack works best to beat the struggle when you leave the shampoo on your dry hair for a minimum of 15 minutes. If your hair is very porous, wash off after the minimum time, if not go for longer if you dare, bearing in mind that a slight lilac tint may remain if you leave it for too long. It is down to trial and error depending on your hair type. So, what do you reckon? We were incredibly proud of Georgia based at our Beverley who was recognised as one of the top 10 Lash Extension Specialists in the region, a huge accolade and a glowing tribute for her incredible hard work and the dedication she has put into perfecting her craft. To be recognised as one of the top Beauty Teams in the country is an incredible feeling and for our team to be recognised by industry specialists is a huge honour and firmly put smiles on all of our girls faces! We had a truly wonderful evening celebrating all of the amazing achievements in our industry, coming together all as one was a truly magical experience and to see each other celebrate collective successes and champion each other was spectacular. ‘The Hair Salon of the Year’ The final award of the evening. Where each regional winner was announced, and we were incredibly proud to be announced as East Yorkshires Hair Salon of the Year! We headed up to the stage to celebrate with the other regional winners from all over the country, feeling truly elated to have received this huge accolade! We didn’t think this feeling could possibly be topped... until minutes later, when the moment came to announce the biggest award of the evening! The Overall Hair Salon of the Year! With bated breath all five salon regional winners waited on stage to hear who had been selected for this prestigious award! To hear ‘De Lacy Hair & Beauty’ being named as the best hair salon of 2020 was a moment we’ll never forget! To be selected from thousands of salons nation-wide is a truly amazing feeling. We have you, our incredible clients to thank for this! We simply couldn’t have achieved this without your continued support. Spring is (technically) here so that means that warmer weather is just around the corner. With the current weather state of play we too are torn between reaching for berries and corals. In true British spirit we thoroughly believe that if we just roll with it and update our routines the sun shall follow. Once the warmer weather hits, you might feel that your winter coverage is a tad too heavy for your skin, often a dash of concealer to cover dark circles and blemishes with a light dusting of setting powder will suffice. Georgia at Beverley has been nominated for Lash extension Specialist of the Year at the 2020 English Hair and beauty Awards. So, we decided to have a chat with her about her journey so far and why she loves to ensure the best possible service for her clients. Georgia told us she loves a challenge and knew just how much people love to have long glamorous lashes!

We’ve had such an amazing journey getting to where we now are as a salon and a team, we know that lots of our clients have shared that journey with us! There are many of you that we are aware haven’t been privy to that so we thought we would write a little story for you all to learn a little more about how our De Lacy family came to be what it is today.... grab a cup of tea, sit back, relax and enjoy! Our founder Kerris has known Kirsty, her salon Area Manager for many years! In fact, many moons ago Kirsty was in fact Kerris’ manager at a previous salon they worked at together. The salon they were working in at the time, had recently been taken over and they were having a pretty rough time of it and weren’t enjoying the environment. Kerris shared a rather funny story, where, on one particularly bad day, having screamed and shouted dramatically ‘I’m Leaving’ to calm her down Kirsty had professionally shut her in a treatment room and locked the door! Imagine the scene: Kerris banging on the door screaming to get out, Kirsty on the other side, Key in hand trying to calm her down! They knew from that moment onwards that they would be friends for life. So, with that Kerris left the salon and found a room to rent within another salon, which is where it all began. Within 9 months Kerris bought a three-treatment roomed salon, which was, by her own admissions ‘a rickety little thing’! A small salon with a warmth of character and a small yet incredibly close-knit team. Some years later Kerris knew she wanted to grow her blossoming little salon into something bigger and introduce hair services. This is when we moved into our current Beverley premises, gutting and refurbishing the whole salon was some task...with Kerris and the team painstakingly installing a reclaimed parquet floor from a local school... a real labour of love! This is when Kirsty came back into Kerris’ life to manage the hair department in the current Beverley salon. It was at this point, when Kerris was expanding the beauty team, that she met Stacy. Ever had one of those moments in life where you just know something is meant to be? Well that’s exactly what Kerris experienced here. During the interviews, Kerris had ascertained that Stacy and one other girl would be the final two choices and had a real internal struggle with who to choose, knowing that the other girl was the correct choice technically, but, adoring Stacy and her attitude and drive more so. However, Kerris knowing she had to make the right decision professionally hired this other girl... then as if by an act of fate, within two weeks someone else handed their notice in and so Stacy joined the De Lacy family, 8 years on she’s now an integral part of the family as our Beverley salon manager. Over the years so much has changed, the teams have been through so much together; babies, Weddings, new beginnings and more. When Kirsty went off on maternity to have her little boy it emerged that through circumstances beyond her control things were tricky, so she chose to step from the company for some time. However, after a meeting over coffee, Kirsty and Kerris found a way for it to work again once more and in November 2017 opened De Lacy Willerby! Shortly after this Kerris went off on maternity leave to have her daughter, returning to make many amazing changes to the company, with Kirsty becoming our Area Manager and both working together to develop the De Lacy team into becoming one big happy De Lacy Family. The ups and downs that face many businesses have been no different for De Lacy, however the bond our teams have formed are really quite something, of which we are sure will continue for many more years to come. We couldn’t be happier that you have chosen to join us on this amazing journey too, your support really does mean the world.

Mabel Where do we even begin? That stunning red gown, those sequins! Mabel’s strapless Moschino dress was a showstopper in itself, teamed with her sleek long bob and perfectly sculpted brows with the most classically glamorous nude makeup look we are just loving her effortless beauty! Makeup artist Maria Asadi sure brought her A game bringing all the glamour!

It’s always a lovely treat to book yourself in for a relaxing facial, massage or even a bit of reflexology. If you’re not used to the usual etiquette and protocol when you turn up for treatments here’s a rundown of things to avoid so it doesn’t spoil your trip. Honesty is the best policy. When calling to book in for your treat, be sure to make sure you ask what your treatments entail; especially if you have sensitive skin, any dislike of oils or certain fragrances or even if you aren’t comfortable with a certain procedure. Be sure to arrive slightly earlier for your treatment to give yourself time to fill in your health card as thoroughly and honestly as you can, pop to the toilet and to cover any concerns or questions you may have with your therapist. Bear in mind that if you require significant changes to your treatment that it may be too late to alter timing when you arrive, so be sure to cover this when booking if you are unsure. A major aspect to bring to our attention is if you are pregnant or have any major health concerns, please speak to us before booking a massage as the treatment may not be suitable. If you are body conscious please don’t worry about being honest with our therapists about this. Many treatments can be adapted to suit your needs, if for example you have an injury or a particular area you don’t want to be treated. Be sure to give notice when booking so you still get to have a pleasant experience and to ensure the treatment is right for you. Avoid Excessive Eating and Drinking. There is nothing worse for you than having to interrupt your treatment part way through to visit the bathroom. Having to get dressed again and then undressed to continue will disrupt your much-needed relaxation time and cut your treatment time short. Ensuring you use the bathroom prior to treatment time and avoid excessive eating so you can avoid discomfort, especially if you will be lying on your stomach. Facial Prep. If you are heading for a facial remember to make sure that you are completely makeup free beforehand. The same applies for lash applications which goes without saying, spray tans too so you don’t go green, make sure you omit deodorant for this too! If your treatment includes a scalp massage check if it will include oils if you don’t want them in your hair. Tie Up your Locks. If you’re having a massage or facial be sure to tie up your hair beforehand or at least bring a hair tie with you. There’s nothing worse than having your long hair stuck in massage oils or your hair stuck in creams on the side of your face. So there you have it, to ensure you have the most relaxing enjoyable experience next time you visit your therapist make sure you are prepared and check you have followed the above so you get the most out of your visit.
